Focus On Goals Not On Obstacles

Sometimes we are so focused on the obstacles to achieving our goals that there is no room left in our minds to focus on actually achieving those goals.

Think of a really important goal that you would like to achieve. How much of your mind is dedicated to the actual achievement of that goal? How much of your mind is focused on all the obstacles that could prevent you from achieving it. If you are too focused on the obstacles you may never get started on the journey towards achieving what you want most. If you focus on your destination and how great you will feel when you get there, you'll be much more motivated to start and continue the journey.

Try to catch yourself whenever you notice you're thinking negatively about your goal. Be vigilant for the times when your mind tries to seduce you into giving up by making you anxious about how difficult it will be.  At times like this say something to yourself that will make you snap out of that negative train of thought. Tell yourself if I keep going I'll get there. Tell yourself, a 1000-mile journey begins with a single step. Tell yourself, winners never quit, and quitters never win. You're persistent positive and optimistic focus on the achievement of your goal is one of the key ingredients that will help you achieve it.

There is a Difference Between Interest and Commitment

There’s a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when it’s convenient. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses - only results. -Ken Blanchard
Commitment means staying loyal to what you said you were going to do long after the mood you said it in has left you. -Unknown
Commitment leads to action. Action brings your dream closer. -Marcia Wieder.
Commitment is the glue that bonds you to your Goals. -Jill Koenig.

Hi Everyone. I have been away from this blog for quite some time but I'm happy to be back. I hope to be posting on here a lot more frequently :)

Don't Let Worn Out Beliefs Stop You

 photo running__jogging-_zps37f9c2d9.gif

"Believe that you can run farther or faster. Believe that you're young enough, old enough, strong enough, and so on to accomplish everything you want to do. Don't let worn-out beliefs stop you from moving beyond yourself." -John Bingham, running speaker and writer

My favorite part of the above quote is 'Don't let worn-out beliefs stop you from moving beyond yourself.' These words meant a lot to me today because I was able to do a yoga pose that I had previously thought was almost impossible for me. I had convinced myself through a worn out belief of something that was just not true. I broke free of this mind cage by first visualizing myself doing the very thing I thought I could not do (visualization is very powerful). I successfully completed the pose and in that moment I realized first-hand the power that old worn out belief patterns have to stop us from doing things we really want to do. What old, worn out beliefs about what you think you cannot do are stopping you from achieving your long-held dreams or goals?

Focus On One Goal At A Time

Don't tackle too many fitness and weight loss goals at once, or you are likely to go off track. Focus on one or two until you have mastered them, then move on to the next ones on your list. As well as not focusing on two many, make sure the ones you do focus on are not too challenging, slow and steady, a marathon not a sprint will get you there eventually.

Set Goals and Monitor Progress

Tips
  1. Set realistic goals. A lot of small steps add up to big results.
  2. Use a 6 - 12 week time frame for best results. It's hard to be motivated toward a date that is a
  3. year or more in the future.
  4. Enter your body measurement and lifting progress and pics at least once a week so you can see how you are doing. Measure often!
  5. Let others know about your goals so you will have some peer pressure pushing you towards reaching them in time.
  6. Don't get discouraged by a few setbacks. Just pick yourself up and stick to your program.

You Can Change

"What you are is what you have been. What you'll be is what you do now". -Buddha

I love this quote because it reminds me that no matter how many times I've failed in the past, no matter how many plateaus I've been on or wagons I've fallen off, I CAN CHANGE MY LIFE by changing what I do NOW - My past does not determine my future...my NOW does.
